Translators Associations in Switzerland

The AETI represents the interests of some 400 students at a university and out-of-university level. One of the main objectives of AETI is to promote exchange between students of different mother tongues, backgrounds and cultures.

AIIC is the only worldwide association for conference interpreters. Founded in 1953, it brings together more than 2800 professional conference interpreters in over 250 cities in over 90 countries.

Founded in 1945, the AIT brings together 150 translation and consecutive and simultaneous interpretation professionals. As a non-profit association, one of its main objectives is to be the link between companies, organizations or individual professionals searching for a partner for their translation or interpretation projects and professionals specialised in the most diverse fields.

The Association Suisse des Traducteurs-Jurés (ASTJ) was founded in Geneva on 30th September 1995 and its main objective is to federate translators-jurors, to promote the profession and to protect the interests of these professionals.

The Swiss Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters (ASTTI) was founded in 1966. The ASTTI promotes professional development and improvement of qualifications.

The Arabic Translation and Intercultural Dialogue Association (ATIDA) works to bring together those who work in the field of translation from and into Arabic, and those who are interested in inter-cultural dialogue.
 

The Centre de Traduction Littéraire de l'Université de Lausanne (CTL) was founded in 1989 to the initiative of Professor Walter Lenschen. Its main objective is to provide a platform for discussion of theorical and practical problems on literary translation. The city and the university of Lausanne provide funds for the center, which was finally created thanks to the financial help of the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia.

The European Association for Machine Translation (EAMT) is an organization that serves the growing community of people interested in MT and translation tools, including users, developers, and researchers of this increasingly viable technology. The EAMT is a non-profit organization registered in Switzerland. The EAMT was established in 1991, and it is the only organization of its kind in Europe.

AITC (the International Association of Conference Translators) is the professional body representing translators, précis-writers, revisers and editors working on a temporary or permanent basis for international organizations or conferences. (Interpreters are represented by AIIC). AITC was founded in 1962 mainly in order to standardize the working conditions and terms of employment of short-term language staff employed by international organizations, particularly those belonging to the United Nations system.
