FIT is a grouping of translators associations, interpreters associations and terminologists associationsThe International Federation of Translators (FIT) is an international grouping of translators associations and other entities that stand-up for interpreters and terminologists interests.

If you represent a national or local translators association or an interpreters or terminologists association, you have every interest in learning more about FIT.

This major organization has more than 100 affiliated associations, representing over 80.000 translators in 55 countries. The goal of the federation is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents.

FIT seeks constantly to improve conditions for the profession in all countries and to uphold translators' rights and freedom of expression.

FIT's constitution

FIT's goals are to link and bring together existing associations in this sector, to encourage and facilitate the formation of new associations, to provide member associations with useful information – such as conditions of work, technological tools and initial and ongoing training – and to promote the recognition of the professions of translator, interpreter and terminologist.

In order to address all these matters and meet the various expectations of its members, FIT has twelve different committees. These committees report to the council annually about their activities and to the congress, which is held every three years.

The federation also has two regional centers, in Europe and Latin America, and is considering creating a third center in Asia.

You can check-out more information about FIT on their website or in the federation's quarterly publications – the journal Babel and the bulletin Translatio.

Contact FIT if you want to see your translators association or interpreters or terminologists association affiliated with this organization.
